Save our BPSOS-South Jersey Summer Camp Campaign!

BPSOS-South Jersey Summer Camp runs the only camp for Asian American and immigrant young youth to learn educational and cultural activities for 6 weeks in the summer. Last year, we had 17 eager young youth and 3 high school leaders participate.

This year, we want to expand our program to 25 young youth and 5 high school leaders. Not only will they be participating in enriching, educational and cultural programs—we will also be adding 5 jobs to the local economy for high school students in this program.

Sadly though, funding for this type of programming has virtually disappeared. But we’re not giving up! We launched a campaign in April 2011 to SAVE OUR SUMMER CAMP! AND YOU CAN HELP!

If our community pulls together, 25 youth like Nam will have the opportunity to learn and play in a safe environment. If 150 people gave just $70, each child would be able to attend summer camp for one week. Our goal is that all 25 youth can attend all six weeks of camp!

Today, we are asking you to give $70 so one youth can attend summer camp for one week. Please give your best gift. In addition, if you can support a youth for two or more weeks ($150 or more), please give! Your donation will make a life-long difference for under-served youth in the South Jersey region.

Your donation will also enable five high school students in Pennsauken to receive wages while teaching youth, and also gain leadership skills. We will work with high school youth one day per week to plan our summer camp; these youth will also receive training on post-secondary career skills and college preparation. Five youth, who otherwise would probably work minimum wage jobs in restaurants and nail salons to bring money for their families, will now be able to work in an enriching environment.

In all, your donation will change the lives of 30 youth – including 25 wide-eyed children and five eager youth leaders!

We believe our community can meet this challenge to Save our Summer Camp! Your funds will be used solely for supplies and activities, field trips, and stipends for high school youth. If we are able to raise additional funds, all support raised will go to support our 2011-2012 afterschool tutorial program.
