About AYEP: The Asian American Youth Empowerment Project, funded by Fairfax County, is a program designed to serve low-income Asian American youth with a three-pronged approach that focuses on academic achievement, college and career planning, and leadership development. Our goals are to help students succeed in school, provide resources for students to explore and plan for their future careers, and help students develop life skills and leadership skills.
AYEP is looking for professionals in the following fields (Software Engineering, Information Technology, Art and Design, Education, Law, Science, Healthcare, Law Enforcement, Business/Finance, Sports/Recreation, Journalism, Architecture, Entertainment, and others) to participate in our semi-annual career exploration workshops for high-school students.
Speaker’s responsibilities:
• Serve as speakers at workshop. Topics include: description of the field, day-to-day job responsibilities, career path and education requirements, job prospect, and advice for students who want to pursue the same career)
• Assist students to develop career action plans at the workshop
• Connect students with available internships or job shadowing opportunities
• Provide mentorship to students
Workshop Time:
All day weekend event (10AM-3PM). Dates to be determined, possibly in late October & mid May
