Milestones

As of the end of January 2006, our disaster relief staff & volunteers:
  • Registered 1,300 families for FEMA assistance
  • Assisted 300 evacuees with Unemployment applications
  • Assisted 179 evacuees with SBA loan applications
  • Provided 145 evacuees with interpretation and transportation
  • Assisted 2,600 patients through mobile clinic staffed by Kaiser Permanente and Scripps
  • Filled 115 prescriptions through HOPE Clinic
  • Immunized 305 patients for Hepatitis A and tetanus
  • Mental health peer counseling for 640 individuals
  • Placed 279 families in housing
  • Distributed 100 gas cards and 1425 $25 vouchers for HEB market
  • Provided 600 25lb bags of rice to shelters and families

Local, state, and federal officials are working together with national organizations to meet the needs of most of the victims of Katrina and Rita, however they are unable to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services to the various immigrant communities affected. BPSOS is proud to have worked with the various agencies and grassroots organizations who collaborated to provide comprehensive care to the Southeast Asian community.
