The Maryland office of Boat People SOS (BPSOS) has served the Vietnamese community of Prince George’s and Montgomery counties and surrounding areas in Northern Maryland since 2001. According to Census 2000,there are 16,744 Vietnamese living in Maryland.
In addtion, our service population includes an estimated 7,000 Vietnamese immigrants and refugees in the DC metropolitan area, including approximately 2,000 Vietnamese refugees who were resettled under the Humanitarian Operation. Our office is located at the heart of the Vietnamese community in Montgomery County and is accessible by bus and Metro.
BPSOS-Maryland works to meet the needs of seniors, low-income persons or families, disadvantaged youth, survivors of violence or exploitation, or any community member whom we can help in some way. Our mission is to help people overcome barriers to information and services, including limited English proficiency, low literacy, low income, lack of transportation, and cultural barriers, so that they can pursue their American dream - a self-sufficient, healthy and dignified life.
