Through its Survivors of Torture Empowerment Program (STEP), BPSOS is committed to providing a full range of services to “re-education camp” survivors and their families who have become residents under the US Humanitarian Operation Program. This includes facilitating a self-help group, mental health pre-screening and referral services, and assistance in attaining culturally sensitive counseling, as well as their U.S. citizenship.
The 2007 National Conference of Vietnamese Trauma Survivors and Seniors will be held at George Mason University, Fairfax Campus from May 23-26, 2007. This three day conference will unite Vietnamese seniors from all over the country and bring together representatives from self-help groups of torture survivors, caregivers, family members, mental health professionals, social service providers, government officials, and representatives of community-based and faith-based organizations to develop a joint agenda and an implementation strategy to address barriers to services.
