Boat People SOS, Inc. is seeking an ESOL intern to support the Rise to Independence through Savings and Education (RISE) program within the Community Development Department.Established in 1980, Boat People SOS, Inc. (BPSOS) is a national non-profit organization with 15 branch offices in 14 states. Our mission is to provide relief, assistance, and support to Vietnamese refugees and immigrants in their search for a life in freedom and dignity, by empowering, equipping and organizing Vietnamese-American communities in their progress towards self-sufficiency.
We provide programs and services in the areas of community development, family services, health and mental health, survivor services, and emergency preparedness and response.
- Teach ESOL classes.
- Research and contact mainstream agencies, including potential funders and job placement agencies, to form community partnerships and to increase resources available to clients.
- Coordinate weekly meetings with community partners and staff.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Windows XP.
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
This internship is located at our Falls Church, VA office and requires a commitment of at least 20 hours/week.
