Boat People SOS, Inc. is seeking a micro-enterprise intern to support the Road to Independence through Savings and Education (RISE) program within the Community Development Department.
Established in 1980, Boat People SOS, Inc. (BPSOS) is a national non-profit organization with 14 branch offices in 14 states. Our mission is to provide relief, assistance, and support to Vietnamese refugees and immigrants in their search for a life in freedom and dignity, by empowering, equipping and organizing Vietnamese-American communities in their progress towards self-sufficiency.
We provide programs and services in the areas of community development, family services, health and mental health, survivor services, and emergency preparedness and response.
Our micro-enterprise program is funded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement and serves refugee women in Maryland. We help women with little to no income to become self-sufficient by participating in a childcare service program. BPSOS provides training to assist participants in acquiring childcare certificates, developing business plans, and obtaining loans to prepare homes as childcare centers.
- Research local child care centers and food service programs for children.
- Coordinate training sessions.
- Collect training materials and provide technical assistance to staff and program participants.
- Work with staff to prepare workshops and meetings.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Windows XP.
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
- Strong research and writing skills.
This internship is located at our new location Silver Spring, MD office and requires a commitment of at least 20 hours/week.
