Mr. Dan Tran, Branch Manager, has been with the Maryland office since August 2008. He builds on his prior experience as a Business Development Coordinator for the BPSOS Microenterprise program and occupying managerial positions in the service industry. Mr. Tran is responsible the day-to-day office operations and managing all the programs that are administered through this office. He implements the financial and program development functions of this office. Mr. Tran holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and minor in Art from McDaniel College, Westminster, Maryland.
Ms. Mai Huynh Dinh, a recent graduate from University of Maryland-College Park with a degree in Government and Politics, joined BPSOS in July 2009 as the youth program coordinator. She is an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and a member of the Global Communities Living and Learning Program. As a child, Mai Huynh was involved in BPSOS youth programs as well as the Vietnamese Girl Scouts in Maryland. Ms. Dinh holds CPR/First Aid certification and has successfully led safety and mentorship training for youth volunteers.
Ms. Thu Ha La has served the Maryland since 2002. She started as a volunteer tax assistor in 2002 and is currently a Program Outreach Coordinator for HAPP. Before joining Boat People S.O.S, Thu Ha La used to be an interpreter volunteer for Montgomery County Public Schools. She got her training and certification on tax law from H & R Block in 2005. She is also certified for completing forty hours of training for Medical Interpreter from Northern Virginia Area Heath Education Center, Alexandria, VA in 2003 and certified for completing 40-hour Community Interpreter Training for Bilingual Staff and Community Interpreters from The Cross-Cultural Communications in 2005. She is fluent in English, Vietnamese, Cantonese and Mandarin. She has her experience working with Vietnamese women in Asian American Health Program and has been a medical interpreter to help Vietnamese and Chinese clients in all workshops, recruiting and referrals for Asian American Health program and Health Fair occurred every year.
Ms. Angela Greenfield is a Business Development Coordinator for RISE Micro-enterprise Program with BPSOS. Prior to joining BPSPS, Ms. Greenfield has worked in international business development for 15 years including managing multicultural offices, running operations and opening new offices for multinational corporations. Her vast experience in business development combined with a legal background well equip her for navigation the difficulties of starting new businesses. She offers refugees and asylees client-tailored business development services. In addition to formal business training, MS. Greenfield holds a Bachelors Degree in Linguistics and a JD in Russian Law. She is fluent in English, Russian and Ukrainian.
Ms. Christine Nguyen will be establishing the Asian Immigrant Youth Assistance Project (AIYA) at BPSOS. This project will provide direct immigration legal services and resources to Asian immigrant children and families in the D.C. metro area through community outreach and education. She will be working with youth who are victims of trafficking; victims of crime; have been persecuted in their home countries; and who are abandoned, abused, and neglected. In addition, she will be working to ensure access to resources in schools for limited English proficient youth and families through community workshops and know your rights presentations. Ms. Nguyen grew up in Calgary, Alberta Canada. As a young adult, she worked as a youth mentor for St. Vincent Liem Vietnamese Catholic Church in Calgary for over 6 years. Ms. Nguyen graduated from the University of Calgary in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. She earned her Juris Doctor at Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Ms. Nguyen is admitted in Maryland.
Ms. Taylor “Thien Thu” Le joined the Maryland office in August 2010 as a Health Awareness and Prevention Program Coordinator. She will be helping persons with low income and no access to health insurance find adequate health care solutions. Working closely with Thu Ha La, she will help our community becoming more aware of the health risks we are facing and providing the knowledge we need to lead a healthy lifestyle. Prior to joining BPSOS as a full-time employee, she was a volunteer ESL instructor here at the Silver Spring office for over a year. She received her Bachelors of Art in International Business Management and a minor in Spanish for Towson University.
