To address the severity of domestic violence in the Vietnamese community,BPSOS has worked to develop innovative approaches to increase awareness and increase culturally relevant services to victims. We have undertaken strategic initiatives to remove barriers that pose obstacles for victims seeking help, such as fear, cultural beliefs, limited English proficiency, lack of knowledge about victims’ rights, limited knowledge of existing resources, and issues particular to immigration and deportation.
We provided translation and interpretation assistance, case management, and legal representation to Vietnamese refugees, most of whom have a long history of trauma and domestic abuse.
We have written and distributed articles and brochures regarding domestic violence, organized community workshops, and disseminated outreach materials via radio shows.
